Heuristics for Flash-Dissemination in Heterogenous Networks

چکیده
Flash Dissemination is a particularly useful form of data broadcast that arises in many mission-critical applications. The goal is rapid distribution of medium amounts of data in as short a time period as possible. While optimal algorithms are available for a highly constrained case (all nodes having the same bandwidth and latency), there is relatively little work in the context of heterogenous networks. Most systems and protocols today either use trees or randomized mesh-based techniques to deal with heterogeneity and mostly work with local knowledge. We argue that a protocol with global knowledge can perform much better. In this paper, we propose two centralized heuristics – DIM-Rank and DIM-Time that use global knowledge to schedule data transfer between nodes. The heuristics are based upon insights from broadcast theory. We perform detailed experimental evaluation of these two heuristics with two decentralized randomized approaches, CREW and NOD. Currently, CREW is the one of the fastest decentralized flash-dissemination protocols. Our experiments show that DIM-Rank is better among the two centralized heuristics and achieves faster dissemination than CREW and NOD across a range of heterogeneity

Analysis of cognitive heuristics for content dissemination in opportunistic networks
When faced with large amounts of data, human brains are able to swiftly react to stimuli and assert relevance of discovered information, even under uncertainty and partial knowledge. These efficient decision-making abilities rely on socalled cognitive heuristics, which are rapid, adaptive, lightweight yet very effective schemes used by the brain to solve complex problems. In a content-centric f...

متن کاملA computational model and convergence theorem for rumor dissemination in social networks
The spread of rumors, which are known as unverified statements of uncertain origin, may threaten the society and it's controlling, is important for national security councils of countries. If it would be possible to identify factors affecting spreading a rumor (such as agents’ desires, trust network, etc.) then, this could be used to slow down or stop its spreading. Therefore, a computational m...

This paper proposes an integrated network design model for a post-distribution cross-docking strategy, comprising multi product production facilities with shared production resources, capacitated cross docks with setup cost and customer zones with time windows constraints. The model is dynamic in terms of time-varying uncertain demands, whereas uncertainty is expressed with scenario approach an...
متن کاملOptimal Design of the Cross-docking in Distribution Networks: Heuristic Solution Approach
A design problem of cross-docking distribution networks is addressed as a new research area in logistics management. This paper presents a new mathematical model for the location of cross-docking facilities and vehicle routing scheduling problems in distribution networks. For this purpose, a two-phase mixed-integer programming (MIP) is formulated. Then, a new heuristic-based simulated annealing...
